Prince George Tour of Australia, New Zealand Planned With Plenty of Family Time
Prince George is unknowingly preparing for his first international trip to Australia and New Zealand next month. He will be making the same trip his father, Prince William, made when he was just a little boy and will be joined by his mother, Duchess Kate, and a new nanny for the occasion. Details of the trip have slowly been released by the Prince's private secretary.
"The tour has been designed with Prince George's consideration and comfort in mind," Miguel Head told Mail Online. "Taking a nine-month-old on a Royal tour is not a first, but it has not happened in this Royal Family's context for many, many years, so there has been much to think about, as any new parent traveling long distance will recognize."
Prince George will stay with his nanny in three central locations-- Wellington, Sydney, and Canberra-- while his parents make their rounds and official appearances. They will return to see him every night, though. At least being in these locations will keep the littlest royal closer to his parents, who have not been away from him for any significant length of time.
"One or two engagements across the three weeks have been identified as times when the Duke and Duchess might take Prince George along, too. But George being just a little over eight-months-old by the time they travel, I'm sure you will appreciate that the couple will have to make a final decision on those moments much closer to the time," Head added. "The Duke and Duchess are content enough to know that he will be with them in the two countries."
Prince William had to ask his grandmother's permission to fly on the same plane as baby George, given that they are both heirs to the crown. Thankfully, the Queen said yes, and the family will stay together on a British Airways flight. The tour is expected to be rather low-key, except for a few high-profile events that the Duke and Duchess will attend together.
