Prince Harry Shaves Beard After Antarctic Odyssey

Prince Harry shaved his beard weeks after reaching the South Pole in a charity walking event last year.

The 29-year-old royal headed toward the southernmost part of the planet in order to raise funds for Walking with the Wounded in a trek that lasted over 20 days, ending on Dec. 13th.

As a result of the frigid temperatures in Antarctica, Harry accumulated a substantial beard over the course of the trip.

However, the fourth in line to the British throne was photographed Tuesday, Jan. 21, without the whiskers.

"Spotted. Prince Harry and security having some juice," an onlooker posted to Instagram along with a photo or a beard-less Harry.

Furthermore, Harry and members of the Walking with the Wounded Team UK gathered in London to celebrate their journey when the royal debuted his freshly-shaven face.

News of Harry shaving off his beard arrives just after reports indicated that his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was "not keen" of her grandson's beard.

"Facial hair will never go down with the queen," a source close to the 87-year-old monarch revealed, according to Us Weekly. "Staff must be clean-shaven at all times."

Meanwhile, Harry is a passionate advocate for wounded soldiers, and the prince spoke about his latest endeavor with Walking with the Wounded back in April.

"These men and women have given their all in the cause of freedom, in our cause," Harry explained, according to Sky News.

"That they should once again step into that breach- this time facing down extreme physical and mental challenges of trekking to the South Pole- just underlines their remarkable qualities," he added.

Harry and his team made the 208-mile trek from the 87 degrees latitude line to the South Pole, all the while racing against a team from the U.S. as well as a team comprised of Canadians and Australians.

The trek to the South Pole was not the first time Harry had participated in a Walking with the Wounded event. In 2011, the royal was a part of the walk to the North Pole, and last year, he was a Patron of their 2012 Everest Expedition.
