Siri to Launch on New iPad This Fall
Siri is apparently coming to Apple's famed tablet, the iPad, according to a recent report from 9to5Mac.
Sources that were deemed trustworthy by the site reported that one of the new features to be included in iOS 6 is Siri support for the iPad. The new software will bring the Siri voice assistant to the device with all of its features that are included on the iPhone 4S and more.
Naturally, any commands that are phone related will be eliminated from the software on the iPad. Music playback, iMessaging, Calendar managing, reminders, weather, maps integration, e-mailing, notes, contacts searching, Safari integration, Wolfram-Alpha searching and more will all be included on the tablet's version of the voice recognition software system.
The sources also cleared up some speculation regarding the device's microphone and if it will have the ability to accurately interpret voice commands to Siri. They stated that commands input with same or similar accuracy to the iPhone 4S.
Apple has reportedly been testing Siri for both the current generation iPad and the iPad 2. It is still unclear whether Apple will launch it on just the new iPad, or release it for both.
Other sources close to the situation have said that Siri will probably be exclusive to the HD Retina display model.
Apple could introduce Siri for the iPad and iOS 6 as early as June 11 at WWDC keynote. The company also might wait for the fall and release the software around the same time as the next-generation iPhone.
iOS 6 will also include a new-in-house Maps application with a 3D mode, a revamped iTunes store, App store, iBookstore, and other features brought over from OS X Mountain Lion that is now available for Mac computers.
