'The Young and the Restless' Casting News, Spoilers: Michael Muhney, Cameron Mathison or Another Actor to Play Adam Newman?
"The Young and the Restless" fans are growing impatient as rumors continue to swirl surrounding beloved character Adam Newman.
Michael Muhney was fired from the coveted role on the soap opera last year amidst allegations of sexual harassment. Although he denied the accusations and no official charges were made, the actor has not returned to "Y&R," and the role of Adam is said to be still up for grabs. However, reports this week suggest that "All My Children" alum Cameron Mathison is being tapped to replace Muhney.
"Sources report that AMC alum Cameron Mathison has met with Y&R about joining the cast," Soap Opera Digest reported this week, adding that the actor was spotted at the famed CBS studios.
Alternately, other rumors suggest that Muhney may be in the process of getting re-hired onto "Y&R" as the actor was also reportedly spotted at the CBS studios recently. Despite the rumors, Muhney has not informed his fans of any changes on "Y&R," and the actor just recently deactivated his Twitter account.
As previously reported, "Y&R" producer Jill Farren Phelps is believed to have invited Muhney back to the soap opera, but the actor turned it down.
"Phelps realized she made a massive mistake in letting go one of the show's popular and talented actors," Highlight Hollywood reported. "She approached this actor to return. However, she made a colossal error of judgment … She made a terrible offer, and not only was she quickly rebuffed, but she was told that it is her incompetence in producing the show and bad writing and bad treatment of the show's actor … that is losing [the show] millions of viewers. Jill Farren Phelps is in real danger of losing her job."
Subsequent to Muhney's firing, "Y&R" fans remain divided with many even campaigning for Muhney to return. However, all fans of the soap opera agree that Adam Newman needs to return to the storyline since it was recently revealed that the character is in fact alive. Insiders close to the set of "Y&R" confirmed that showrunners are tense as the effort to replace Muhney and cast a new actor as Adam has proved difficult.
