Neil Gorsuch confirmed – April 7, 2017
In 2017, the Senate confirmed Judge Neil Gorsuch of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit to the U.S. Supreme Court, with him filling the seat left vacant the year before when Justice Antonin Scalia died.
Gorsuch had been nominated by Trump in January 2017 and was previously unanimously confirmed to the Tenth Circuit by the Senate in 2006. His confirmation to the Supreme Court came in a vote of 54-45.
"We celebrate the confirmation of a justice who we anticipate will keep his promise to adhere to a textual and originalist view of the Constitution," said Family Research Council President Tony Perkins in a statement at the time.
Democrats largely opposed his nomination, expressing opposition to his conservative views and anger over the GOP-controlled Senate’s refusal to hold a hearing for President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland.
