Willow Smith's Tongue Ring Causes Concern Among Fans of Acting Family
Willow Smith, 11-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, recently posted a picture of herself with a tongue ring on Instagram, which outraged many fans of the family.
While the youngest of the Smiths' children posted the image that featured a friend with a piercing below her lip, the budding singer and actress also acknowledged that her tongue ring was fake. However, fans still took to Twitter to debate about Smith being too young for a tongue ring.
"I hope this is fake," one person tweeted.
Another person joined in the conversation to speak about the ill fate of child stars.
"Child stars," another person wrote. "Something's gotta give sooner or later."
However, another person defended the Smith family, who does not have a public history of mistreating their children.
"Why are y'all so concerned with Willow Smith's piercing," the person questioned on Twitter. "Has child services stepped in? No? Ok so y'all are just tweeting to tweet?"
Willow's 43-year-old father who has returned to the big screen after three years to star in "Men in Black III," has had no problem admitting that it is not easy raising his daughter who has shaved her head and died her hair in unconventional colors multiple times this year.
"Listen -- look, that's a handful. That Willow, she is, uh… You see, boys are easy," Smith told Access Hollywood while promoting his movie last month. "Like, it's really easy with boys. It's like, until you can beat me in a fist fight you've gotta do what I say!"
Still, the actor told Parade magazine that his daughter has freedom to make choices about her appearance to prepare her for the future.
"When you have a little girl, it's like how can you teach her that you're in control of her body? If I teach her that I'm in charge of whether or not she can touch her hair, she's going to replace me with some other man when she goes out in the world," Smith told the magazine last month. "She is used to making those decisions herself. We try to keep giving them those decisions until they can hold the full weight of their lives."
The actor told the publication that if Smith has the freedom to choose how she looks, she will ultimately have command of her own body.
"She has got to have command of her body," the father of three told the publication. "So when she goes out into the world, she's going out with a command that it is hers."
On her Twitter biography, Willow has admitted that she likes to be different and break the rules.
"I am different..not who I am on the t.v," the bio reads. "I am a weird, loud person who likes to break rules and live life."
