  • Not a Suggestion

Jesus' words to the disciples in Matthew 28:19–20 are often called The Great Commission. And in the original language, these words are a command—not a suggestion.

  • The Power of the Gospel

Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Peace Prize, also was the man who created dynamite. When he came up with this new, explosive kind of technology, he needed a name. So he spoke with a friend who knew the Greek language well and asked him what the Greek word for "explosion" was. That word was dunamis, and so Nobel named his invention "dynamite."

  • Heaven and Hope

After our son Christopher went to be with the Lord, I found myself having a greater interest in two topics. The first is the topic of heaven. I have always been interested in heaven, of course. I have preached on it a lot. But I have never studied heaven like I do now. I want to know everything I can about it.

  • Listen Up!

It is possible to hear God's Word with our ears, but not with our hearts. Jesus knew that we can often hear without understanding. That is why He would so often say, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!" If we were to paraphrase that in our modern language, Jesus would be saying, "Pay attention to what I'm saying. Listen carefully to what I am telling you right now."

  • The Problem With 'Spirituality'

Nowadays people will say things like, "I am not into organized religion; I am into spirituality." Translation: "I make it up as I go. I take of a little of this and a little of that. Whatever suits me and my lifestyle, that is my faith."

  • Think about this before you shoot off your next e-mail!

In this day of instant information, we can get our news so fast that we don't have to wait for the evening news anymore. We don't have to wait for the newspaper. We can go out on the Internet and get our news in real time.

  • Long-Term Effects

It must have been eye-opening to see those precious creatures lying there, dead. Nothing had died up to that point—no animal or no person. Everything was living.

  • Let God Cover It

When Moses saw one of his fellow Hebrews being beaten by an Egyptian, the Bible tells us that "he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand" (Exodus 2:12). The problem with sand, especially in Egypt, is the wind blows around. Moses should have looked up instead of to the right and to the left.

  • What Follows Blessing

After God told Adam that he could eat from every tree in the Garden of Eden except one—the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil—it seems that it wasn't too long until Satan appeared and brought his temptation with him.
