BBM for Android Release Date Within Days Says Blackberry
After a botched attempt at rolling out its messaging software last month, BlackBerry confirmed that the second official BBM for Android release date will be within days.
The company's CMO Frank Boulben told Reuters that the software will roll out for Android and iOS very soon and that the issues that ruined the original release have been resolved.
BlackBerry was originally supposed to roll out the software at the end of the summer, but delayed it until Sept. 22. The second date was canceled due to an early leak of the BBM for Android app.
Six million Android and iPhone users have already signed up for updates on the release of the software, according to BlackBerry. The company made an announcement on its website last month announcing the times and details for the BBM roll out on Android and iOS.
"That's right BBM fans- the iconic mobile social network will begin rolling out for Android and iPhone customers around the world from Sept. 21," wrote Blackberry on its official site in Sept. "Soon, you'll be able to easily connect with friends on different platforms."
BBM was supposed to be available as a free download on those dates and will only be compatible with Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and above and Apple devices running iOS 6 and above.
"BBM is a very engaging messaging service that is simple to use, easy to personalize and has an immediacy that is necessary for mobile communications," said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President for BBM at BlackBerry. "With more than a billion Android, iOS, and BlackBerry smartphones in the market, and no dominant mobile instant messaging platform, this is absolutely the right time to bring BBM to Android and iPhone customers."
