Chad Ochocinco Johnson's Family Speak Out About 'Heartbreaking' Domestic Dispute With Evelyn Lozada
Chad Johnson's family is reportedly heartbroken over the domestic dispute incident that took place this past weekend between the NFL star and his new wife Evelyn Lozada. The altercation has since led to the wideout being cut from the Miami Dolphins along with the cancellation of their joint reality television show.
After the newlyweds began fighting about Johnson's alleged purchase of condoms, a 36-year-old Lozada was reportedly struck in the head by the veteran wide receiver. A friend of Johnson's family reportedly told The Grio about their thoughts concerning Lozada's temper and the result of the fight.
"They're blaming both of them for letting tempers escalate. From her reputation on TV, she's known as a hothead, but now it doesn't matter," a source close to the family told the publication. "A guy with a promising future is now unemployed. A career has been severed. And all of this after just six weeks of marriage. It's just horrible."
Although Johnson's family friend told The Grio that the family accepted 34-year-old Johnson's new wife, they were reportedly worried about the union that came together after the two met on Twitter in 2010 and led to their engagement just months later.
"Did the family embrace Evelyn? Absolutely, because that was his choice," the friend said. "Were they wondering, is this gonna work? Absolutely. Who wouldn't be concerned?"
While the family did not excuse Johnson's alleged violent behavior, they reportedly said he was looking to patch things up with Lozada. However, the source said they believe Johnson may have been overwhelmed by the amount of attention he received after appearing with the star on her reality television show.
"I think he got caught up in the hype," the family friend said about Johnson. "And like a lot of kids, all of a sudden you're a superstar, you're a millionaire. It's a lot."
While Lozada suffered from a head laceration, the family reportedly spoke about Johnson suffering from the termination of his $975,000 per year contract from his hometown Miami Dolphins.
"We all had high hopes. He was with the team of his choice, he was finally back home," the friend said about Johnson, a Miami native. "He's always wanted to be Miami Dolphin - it's the highlight of his career. He's 34 years old. It's heartbreaking for the entire family."
