HTC Smartphones to Receive New Security Update From Sprint
Sprint will issue an Over The Air software update that will solve the security flaws in some HTC developed smartphones.
The HTC handsets that will receive the OTA updates are the HTC EVO 4G, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Shift4G, HTC EVO Design 4G, HTC EVO View 4G and HTC Wildfire S.
Other HTC devices that may receive the update are the Thunderbolt, myTouch 4G Slide and G2.

HTC previously provided a statement to Engadget, a technology website, on the update: "HTC is working very diligently to quickly release a security update that will resolve the issue on affected devices. Following a short testing period by our carrier partners, the patch will be sent over-the-air to customers, who will be notified to download and install it. We urge all users to install the update promptly. During this time, as always, we strongly urge customers to use caution when downloading, using, installing and updating applications from untrusted sources."
The security flaw in question would allow a third party application access to a user's HTC smartphone personal data. The update will be released to users' handsets in waves. Some users will receive a notification on their smartphone ahead of other users.
HTC smartphone owners can check for the update by going to: Settings > About Phone > System Updates > HTC Software Update > Check Now.
"Protecting customer privacy is a top priority at Sprint,” said Sprint in a statement. “We urge all users to install the update promptly."
Sprint has not released more information on whether the OTA update will be available to other mobile carriers.
