"Ice Cream Sandwich improves the performance of the Galaxy S2 in some areas and promises better battery life so, it is kind of like you are getting a free hardware upgrade," YouMobile has said.

The site reports that the general usability of the device has been greatly improved with the addition of Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung first announced last week that it would be releasing the Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades for the handset in various places throughout Europe. So far there has not been any launch dates confirmed for the Galaxy S2 upgrades in the U.S.

Samsung also announced that other devices will receive the update as well in the near future including the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2 LTE, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 7.0, 8.9 and 10.1.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to be coming with the software pre-installed. Google is also in the process of creating a 7-inch tablet that runs ICS.

The Wi-Fi version of the Motorola Xoom has already received the ICS update in the U.S. The Galaxy S2 should receive it sometime before the summer.
