Steve Jobs Funeral: Samsung CEO Pays His Respects
The world lost one of the biggest innovators in technology this week with the passing of former Apple CEO, Steve Jobs. The funeral for one of the greatest innovators of our time took place in a private event at an undisclosed location Friday.
Despite fighting legal battles against Apple in numerous countries, electronics giant Samsung still was a major parts supplier for Apple, the company Jobs catapulted to success.
Even though they were fierce competitors before Jobs resigned as Apple’s CEO in August, Samsung’s CEO Choi Gee-sung paid his respects to the fallen technological innovator.
“Chairman Steve Jobs introduced numerous revolutionary changes to the information technology industry and was a great entrepreneur. His innovative spirit and remarkable accomplishments will forever be remembered by people around the world,” he said according to the Economic Times of India.
Apple is currently the largest individual buyer of electronics components from Samsung.
The company which was co-founded by Steve Jobs contributes to an estimated four percent of Samsung’s global revenues.
The two companies are currently engaged in twenty lawsuits around the world which pertain to disputes over patents on software, hardware, packaging and marketing related to Apple’s iOS devices.
A rumor also spread recently that Apple was planning to deal a significant blow to Samsung by stopping orders, and Taiwan Economic Times reported last month that Apple had begun testing manufacturing of its upcoming A6 chip with TSMC.
Samsung’s legal team also plans to file separate preliminary injunction motions in Paris, France and Milano, Italy, requesting the courts block the sale of the iPhone 4S in that region, according to an announcement made shortly after the device was announced.
Jobs’ passing came only one day after Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event where the company unveiled the new iPhone 4S along with the white iPod Touch.
Jobs was not present at the event, but in the past, the tech mogul made these types of events famous by debuting devices such as the original iPod and iPhone.
