Steven Sund details 5 facts about J6 in Tucker interview: National Guard, Nancy Pelosi and 2020 riots
3. Assistant chief for intelligence of the Capitol Police absolved of responsibility
When asked if Yogananda Pittman, who served as the assistant chief for intelligence and security at the time, had intelligence that he did not have, Sund responded, “I don’t know.” He also detailed how Pelosi went on national TV the day after the Jan. 6 attack and blamed “leadership at the top of Capitol Police” for letting the situation get out of control and called for his resignation.
“The very next day, [she] puts Yogananda Pittman as acting chief” of Capitol Police, he added. However, Pittman did not become chief of Capitol Police because she received a “vote of no confidence” from members of the law enforcement agency and now serves as chief of police at the University of California at Berkeley. Carlson pointed out that the college is located “right across from Nancy Pelosi’s district,” which is based in San Francisco.
Sund suggested that Pittman receiving a “secret leave” so she could join the UC Berkeley Police on Feb. 1, 2021, without retiring from the Capitol Police until months later went “against Department Policy.”
At the beginning of the interview, Sund described how the intelligence he received ahead of Jan. 6 suggested that the Trump rally set to take place that day would be just like previous nonviolent protest events related to the 2020 election. However, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had gotten their hands on intelligence revealing plans for “attacking the Capitol” and killing Capitol Police officers in advance of the Jan. 6 attack but they concealed that information from Sund.
Sund also characterized the Jan. 6 riots as an example of an “intelligence failure,” which Carlson circled back to during their discussion about Pittman. The implication of their analysis was that Pittman was rewarded for overseeing an intelligence failure.
