Tiger Woods Aims to Improve After Poor Performance at Frys.com Tournament
Tiger Woods’ performed poorly in the first round of the Frys.com Open on Thursday with a performance of 2-over-par.
“Not happy,” Woods said of his performance on the green. “It was one of the worst putting rounds I’ve ever had. I don’t think I can putt any worse than I did today.”
Woods was off of his game at the CordeValle Golf Club on Thursday, where he missed three putts inside of 6 feet on the first 11 holes.
The former number one golfer in the world with 71 PGA Tour trophies said he had an idea why he was doing so poorly on Thursday.
“I haven’t played,” he said. “Number 2, I haven’t practiced as much as I have in the past.”
Woods also spoke about losing confidence in his stroke.
“My stroke got worse because I was trying to (alter) it, and I started losing confidence in it because I wasn’t hitting my line,” he said. “So it was just a downward spiral.”
Woods broke his game down to the press, realizing that he could make some improvements.
“The rest of my game was not too bad,” Woods said. “I hit some bad shots, yes. But I also hit some really good ones. But I got nothing out of the round on the greens.”
However, Woods seemed to be confident in methods that he could use to improve his game. The first, being altering his clubs.
“I think I’m going to go put some lead tape on (the putter) and see if maybe (there’s) a little more mass,” Woods said, according to The Huffington Post. “It’s always worked in the past. I think I’m going to have to do that here.”
Although many have questioned Woods’ legacy at the hands of a poor performance, he said improving would be his sole focus.
“I’m just playing to get competitive and win a golf tournament,” Woods said, according to The Washington Post. “It’s not about validation. It’s about going out there and playing. And right now, I’m six back. I need to put together a good round tomorrow and gradually piece my way back into the tournament.”
