'Speechless' Democratic senators

Some Senate Democrats expressed disbelief regarding Gaetz's nomination, according to NBC News.

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., told the outlet that they could "record me as speechless."

"I just heard the news. I can’t even believe it," said Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.Va., a former Democrat who left the party earlier this year and decided to leave the U.S. Senate.

Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt. questioned if the news about Gaetz's nomination was from The Onion, a satirical news site, and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., suggested that Gaetz "will have a lot of problems in the Senate."

"I think that this nomination will be the first major test of whether they’re willing to stand up to Donald Trump," said Blumenthal. "And we’ll soon know."
