'Words cannot convey the sorrow': All 14 people killed in New Orleans terrorist attack identified
LaTasha Polk
Relatives of LaTasha Polk lit candles and held a vigil on Saturday evening, The Associated Press reported Sunday night. Polk’s family, who had been searching for her, didn't learn about her death until the coroner’s office called on Saturday morning.
“It was the wrong call we got, but at least we got the call,” Polk’s cousin, Sebastian Polk, said about the heartbreaking news. The cousin remarked that he had no tears left to shed by the time he learned that Polk had been killed.
The nursing assistant from New Orleans was also the mother of a teenage boy, according to the AP. Polk, who was in her 40s at the time of her death, was the last victim identified.
During the Saturday vigil, Polk’s family held one another and cried, lighting candles for their fallen relative and the other victims, the AP added. Another of Polk’s cousins, Courtney Polk, described the nursing assistant as someone who was “always smiling.”
“She was a loving person, and for her life to be taken away — unimaginable,” the victim’s aunt, Kim Polk, said about her niece’s death.
